🇵🇭 VIGAN • Raniag Twilight Festival: A Bright Halloween

  "Although many have embraced a child-friendly concept, still many of the participants have created floats which are not so child-friendly and these include witches, zombies, aswang, kapre and other malignos."

It is Halloween Season but in Vigan, Halloween is not covered by fear and a trembling effect of paranoia but it is full of lights and celebration. This is how Vigan welcomes the Halloween. It preludes the Halloween with festivities and glamorous parades. This festival is called the "RANIAG" TWILIGHT FESTIVAL. Raniag is an Ilocano word that is equivalent to shine, light or glare.

The Raniag Twilight Festival is actually a series of activities and it is a week-long celebration prior to All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day.

The Vigan streets are filled with lights or in Ilocano "raniag."

They are the lights that combat the fear of the younger about ghost stories and urban legend. The festival has made the night so colorful. The float parade is in fact the highlight of the festival featuring the creativity of the Bigueños.

39 barangays of Vigan has 1 float each and every float should be carried by a tricycle so it was a challenge for everyone to make a float on a tricycle.

The theme is of course about Halloween but some just prefer to create child-friendly floats that is not too far from the theme. So, others just prefer to be angels, fairies and others. But I just noticed that it was like a Ms. Gay in a costume parade segmet. LOL!

Thousands of watchers, tourists, residents and visitors flocked at the Plaza Salcedo. Vigan's main Avenue including the famed Calle Crisologo at the Heritage Village was closed to give way for the colorful floats which are all stunning with lights in full color and creativity. Some floats are as high as 25-30 feet owning a temporary glory under the dark night sky.
